Friday Sunshine and A Trunk Filled With Memories

"I couldn't live without something that touches my heart. No one should."—Fashion designer Donna Karan, April 02

As sunlight filters through my home this Friday morning, I feel relaxed and happy. Its amazing what sunshine can do to you when you have to survive the winter months in the Seattle area :) However, this year, I really can't afford to complain with all the bad weather in the East Coast!! We, on the other hand have been pretty fortunate!

My prized possession at home, is this trunk filled with my personal memories created by the very talented Chandan Dubey. Next week, I shall take more pictures and share the details and the story of how this trunk was created!

Happy Friday people! Go on and enjoy the weekend and keep on smiling :)

Fabulous Finds : Stockholm Bombay Project

Have you heard about the Stockholm Bombay Project?  I stumbled upon it recently and fell in love with the concept. Karolina Svensk, based in Sweden is the creative Director and founder of the Project. Stockholm Bombay Project brings together a colorful product line of vintage items for the bohemian home!

The motivation behind this project is simple, and the thought behind it, is something........I for one completely relate to. " I think we should see opportunities in old things, rather than dismiss them as just old. There is an incredible value in objects that have a history and genuine craftsmanship behind them".

The store carries a collection of textiles, handpicked furniture and handicrafts. The mission is to highlight faraway cultures and give craft traditions an opportunity to live on.

You can visit their website for more information and to view the entire collection!

A Bit of Personal History On MDC Today

It was a picture perfect day in the Pacific Northwest today! Sunny skies always make me smile especially at the beginning of the work week:) Please bear with me, as I share some exciting news and a bit of personal history about my family on the blog today!

Today, India celebrated its 66th Republic Day. The President of The United States was in New Delhi as the chief guest at the Republic Day parade. This morning, I woke up to the news that The Prime Minister of India has given a special gift to President Obama. The gift happens to be a letter that has a direct link to my family. As you can imagine, I was thrilled to hear about this!

The news was that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had gifted a piece of Indo-US history to President Obama. The gift was in the form of a copy of the first telegram from the United States to India's Constituent Assembly in 1946. The telegram was sent by the then Secretary of State Dean Acheson to Dr Sachchidananda Sinha, the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly of India. This is extremely personal for me as Dr Sachchidananda Sinha happens to be my Great Grandfather! My entire family is rather moved by this news especially my mom! My son who is in 4th Grade can't wait to share this news with his class :)

Here are a few lines from the telegram published on news channels " In the telegram, Acheson says: "With the approach of December 9, I extend to you as provisional chairman of the Constituent Assembly and through you to the Indian people the sincere good wishes of the United States Government and of the people of United States for a successful conclusion of the great task you are about to undertake."  The full details of the telegram can be found by clicking Here

I am sharing a few images of the event and pictures of the letter that was gifted to President Obama in New Delhi.

The telegram addressed to my Great Grandfather!

Its been quite a day to say the least :) A day filled with pride and emotion and one that I will remember forever!

Styling Your Coffee Table

I am still unpacking from my trip. Its an exhausting process putting away stuff! I open a closet and end up rearranging everything...sigh! The unpacking exercise is now leading to de -cluttering and a trip to Goodwill is long overdue.

Now for the fun part, as I unpack my finds from Turkey and India, I can't help but redecorate :) I was pretty good and did not shop a lot, however, I could not resist this copper tray! I have placed it on my coffee table and quite like the effect. This got me thinking and............I am motivated to share some ideas with you on how to style your coffee table at home. I would love to hear your suggestions as well. So stay tuned....... as I bring you a few ideas on how to beautify your coffee table and end tables! Hopefully, the entire process will be fun and inspiring :)

Are you in? To begin, can you list a few items that sit on your coffee table.....the ones you cannot do without?

The New Year At My Dream Canvas

Hello there! My apologies for missing in action for a while! As the New Year begins, I am thrilled to be back with all of you! December was a busy month for me. I traveled to Istanbul and absolutely loved my time there. The city was all I had imagined it to be and more! I still have a gazillion pictures to sort through, but I promise that there will be a post up soon. I was also in India for a month. We attended my husbands high school reunion. The reunion was in Rajasthan and for me that was like going home :) As an army brat, my Dad was posted there numerous times! The most rewarding experience was seeing hubby act like a kid and reminisce with his pals :) A memorable experience indeed!

India was all about spending time with  family and friends. Staying at my parents home is therapeutic, it is my safe haven, and the time I spend there is just what I need to recharge my batteries :) I am also thrilled about the brand new collection coming soon to the Shop At My Dream Canvas. I had so much fun shopping in Turkey and India. This collection is truly a treasure trove. You don't want to miss the launch coming up soon :)

This New Year I want to keep things simple. I want to be happy and spread happiness around, I want to count my blessings and I want to work towards achieving my personal goals. What about you ? How is the New Year treating you so far? Drop me a line and lets chat shall we :)
