A Giveaway and a Treasure!!

I am so excited today as I am announcing MY VERY FIRST GIVEAWAY!! The details about the Giveaway are at the end of the post, so read on and join the fun :-)

Its amazing what treasures you can find in your home when you are not looking. I was cleaning out some stuff in my kitchen when I saw these lovely china plates that my mom had given me a few years ago.

I knew they were my great grandfathers, and therefore, very old. The engraving on the back of the plates said "GDA France" and I was dying to know more. Here's what I discovered after some research on the net.

These plates are part of the Charles Haviland china. They were originally created in 1872 in Paris. The ones that I own are from the early 1900's. Patterns on these pieces were hand painted using a liquid clay known as "Haviland Barbotine." This new way of painting on porcelain attracted the attention of great French artists, including Manet and Monet. As a result, many of the Haviland patterns were influenced by the Impressionist movement in the mid-1800s in France.

Haviland china is highly collectible due to its historical and artistic significance.

I am fascinated by the history of these lovely plates, and thrilled with my discovery :-)

Now for the Giveaway!!

A chance for my readers to win a $40 dollar gift card from the fabulous online store CSN.
