Sentimentality in Decorating

I am working on a project that I am very excited about. It involves old family pics and their scanning and restoration. Its a bit of work and requires patience but I am loving the process :)

There are some words and sayings that stay with you forever, sharing one such thought today! “I live in my own little world. But its ok, they know me here.”  by ― Lauren Myracle

Well, I am a bit like that, I do live in my own little word :) My home is my cocoon where I live with my stories and my little treasures!  Our home tells the story of where we come from, and where we are going!

It is the people before me and the people with me today that makes my home complete! A bit of sentimentality in decorating is good don't you think :)

Keep on smiling and here's wishing you a beautiful day!

The Artist Chandan Dubey

I have followed Chandan Dubey's work for a while now and she continues to amaze me :) Chandan is a Mumbai based photographer, artist and curator. Her work is  extraordinary and her latest collection has me drooling :)
The vintage skirt table makes a dramatic statement. The Gypsy Queen style trunks would liven up any room....Gosh! I could go on and on....... My other personal favorite is the  trunk where Chandan has combined studio portraits with vintage jewelry.
I am very excited as I plan to get one done for myself very soon! Unfortunately for now I can't get something a large trunk shipped to the US, but i can get something smaller :) A box that has Chandan's magic and a few personal touches!!

To know more about Chandan's work connect with her via  Facebook.

For all of you in Delhi, you get to see Chandan's work in person at an event hosted by Bhavna Bhatnagar of The Indian Summer and Serendipty. Find the details of the event HERE

Make sure you mark your calenders! 27th and 28th September 2014.

A Home With Personality!

A home with a personality is what I call this home featured in Elle Australia. This is what the owner has to say about it " Our home is more then four walls and a roof. it is center stage to our family framework but it would not have its heart and soul without the people that live in it…. The style of the house is largely dictated by their loves and needs which has resulted in an undefinable interior style which we call shipwrecked and straight up crazy."

Have the words caught your attention and now the images will too :)

I was fascinated and if you want to see more pics of this home click HERE!

Have a great week ahead!

Come Fly With Me To Ibiza

I am almost always swept away by homes in Spain! Somehow the interiors call out to me:) I think what appeals to me is how bright and airy they all look. The use of natural resources is always a plus. To add to the drama, the homes often have views of the shimmering sea below :)

This is another home in Ibiza that recently caught my eye! I was tempted to share all the pics of this stunning home, but I guess a few will have to do! You can view all the images here!

Vintage Decor "NAPASTYLE"

NAPASTYLE is a great resource for home decor and accessories. I particularly like their tabletop finds. These solid elm hand carved vintage scoops have recently caught my eye! These scoops were originally used for filling rice barrels and snacks. I love the weathered look as it adds to its beauty!

I own similar vases myself and they looks beautiful with fresh flowers! These vases draw their inspiration from vintage confectioner jars. I love their old world charm:)

Reminiscing With Mom Part 3

Thank you for reading my mom's first two posts on My Dream Canvas and the fantastic response. Today, "Reminiscing with Mom" takes a new turn as she talks about her very first garden.

Take it away Mom...........

" Living in the Kashmir valley, I had always hoped for was a little garden. It was like a dream come true to live amidst hills and dales and lovely flowers. Our home was a small 3 room cottage. We had vast open spaces around us.  I was therefore inspired to try my hand at gardening.

To give you all some additional context, I grew up in a home where we had a lovely garden. My father (Anu's grandfather) had been an avid gardener and he loved landscaping. The flowers changed with the seasons. In winters our garden was a riot of colors. It was a visual treat indeed! The kitchen garden was my father's pride and joy. In winters we had an array of vegetables in our backyard. The veggies in our garden were not the usual ones.  These were normally not seen in the area where we lived. He grew leek, celery, parsley, mint, peppers, strawberries, and an array of salad leaves. To get all this going, my Dad spent a lot of time researching and then procuring plants and seeds from the famous PochasSuttons in UK. At that time, I hardly gave it a thought. Yet it suddenly came back to me as I looked at the vast open space around our home in Kashmir.

The motivator was our little daughter Anu :) She was a little over One then! She enjoyed being outdoors and loved picking wild flowers! The weather in the valley was ideal with cool, crisp days, and endless sunshine! To begin with I planned out my very own patio. My little sit out had a colorful blue and white stripped awning sloping down from the wall. Believe it or not, I designed the patio in my head and it was put together by a local tailor cum cobbler :)  This became the ideal space for alfresco dining which is so popular today:) The layout of the flower beds came next. Fortunately for us nature was on our side! The flowers came up effortlessly in their myriad hues and it pleased Anu immensely :)

We were thrilled with our little kitchen garden which came up quickly as well. We had quite an impressive collection :) There was mint, parsley, green beans, tomatoes, cauliflowers, cabbages and some aubergines too. It was thrilling to step outside and pluck the veggies and cook them. It was all very "organic" which is the buzz word these days :)

For Anu and me, tending our flower and and kitchen gardens was an exciting activity! We were living far away from the hub of a city with just another family for company.  My husband was away on work a lot and thus my little garden and my daughter made for good company!

When I look back on those days, I can't help but remember and feel proud of my first garden."

Thanks Mom :) I did my own little research about Sutton Seeds in UK and came up with this....

Suttons Seeds were founded in the Berkshire town of Reading in 1806. Suttons received royal patronage in 1858, when Queen Victoria requested Martin Hope Sutton to supply seeds to the royal household. Suttons Seeds have held a Royal Warrant ever since, and are currently suppliers to Queen Elizabeth.

Do you Suffer From House Envy?

Sigh! When I spot so much prettiness that's all I have to say :)  While most of us are trying to create a home that works best for us........do you at times suffer from house envy? Be honest! Do you see a home, and say, I wish mine looked like this?

While I admire tons of homes, personally my space works best for me!  Ultimately the comfort of my own home takes precedence over all the prettiness I spot elsewhere :) On a philosophical note, I truly believe that the people in my home is what makes my home beautiful for me!

I absolutely adore spaces that brings the outdoors inside. Its like the "inside" is having a conversation with the "outside"!! The space flows perfectly when it comes together like that. The endless sunshine filtering through adds to the charm!

This home today sums up my love for bright and airy spaces! So, what are some things that make your envy list?

Autumn Hues At Home!

It has been an eventful few days in my neck of the woods! The kids started school today. The alarm clock was a rude shock this morning :) The house was a flurry of activity, but thankfully with my parents here, we manged pretty well :) I packed off my youngest to Kindergarten today. I have to admit that it was hard! I did shed a quiet tear, as I watched her get into the big yellow bus and drive away. As I stood there, I came to the realization that I no longer have a baby at home!

Here at My Dream Canvas, I am gearing up for autumn and all the festivities it brings with it :) This pretty orange hibiscus is a gift from my parents friends. The color is ideal for this season. It sets the tone for the little changes I have in mind for my Casa :) I am thinking of adding some bling to the house :)

Are you making any seasonal changes to your home? Do tell!
