The Grown Up Room

The sun is shining and the spring cleaning at home has begun. I am a happy gal :-) Baby steps of course but at least its is a beginning! My garage is a nightmare and that's the first place I need to tackle. Do you ever get the feeling that on some days you love your house and on other days you just want to run away :-) Let me explain.....that happens to me a lot with all the chaos around me. Toys littered everywhere, endless laundry, papers that are sitting around but never get looked at......you get the drift :-)

Well, to solve my problem, I devote one room to me! It is the grown up room in the house. It is my space with an imaginary "Do not Enter" sign as per my convenience :-) The sign is for the family members to enforce that hubby and the kids keep their mess out of here :-)

Does it help to define spaces? I think it does especially with small kids. Eventually the kids will learn to keep things in order and within their own space. I am a long way from there......but then hopefully we shall get there SOMEDAY :-)

So here's my "Grown up" room while the rest of the house looks like a tornado has hit it :-)

I recently received a gift for my birthday. A lovely tray which is now the centerpiece on my dining table. Thank you S :-)

Here's a  full view of the cabinet I found at a local antique store. I like how my family heirlooms have a good home!

Here's a design tip.... all moms deserve a grown up room. So go ahead and try and create one for yourself :-) How is your week coming along?  I would love to hear from you.

Photographer Pauline Joosten

Hi there..... and hello to the new week. Today, I am happy to share with you the work of photographer Pauline Joosten

A Dutch photographer, Pauline has brilliantly captured the charm of these unique cottages in Turkey. Located in Sirince, high up in the mountains these are traditional Turkish mud cottages. I am swept away by the antique filled interiors, the lovely woven rugs, the old world charm and the rustic yet chic vibe.

What do you think?

Weekend Musings and a Reminder

I usually like my Sunday evenings to be quiet and at home! Ha.....that's really never the case. If I am lucky there might be a few hours of down time. This is usually followed by the hysteria of preparing for the week ahead. Find the backpacks, lunch boxes......the elusive socks that are almost always missing with a 6 and a 3 year old :-) Check homework, make sure there are groceries for the week ahead......the list is endless :-)

If Mr MDC and I can squeeze in some TV time before we get the kids to bed and NOT doze off ourselves, then I would call it a productive evening :-) As you can see it is not all glamor at the MDC Casa :-) Realities of life take over! Yet every once in a while, we step away and slow down to enjoy the simple things in life.

For us as a family, we always enjoy a vacation- be it big or small. This weekend we drove three hours away from home into the mountains. We spent the night at a lovely town set around a glacier fed lake. It was a welcome break and pictures will follow. My allergies continue to bother me! However, here's my take on it. Why be stuck inside? Enjoy Spring as one should...... by heading outdoors!!

Here are some lovely images to shake off those Monday blues and bring some Spring into your life :-)

In a few hours I shall announce the winner of this lovely trinket box from the Shop at My Dream Canvas.

Enter right HERE if you have missed out :-)

Turkish Coffee anyone?

I missed out on posting MDC's "Fabulous Finds" the last two weeks. Hopefully, this will make up for it :-)

These traditional Turkish porcelain coffee pots with olive tree sprig handles are beautiful, earthy, and chic! Based out of Ayvalik, a landmark heritage town in Turkey, Santimetre designs functional and handmade objects like porcelain tableware.

Riad El Fenn

Opulent, beautiful and dramatic are the words that come to my mind seeing the glamorous interiors of this boutique hotel. Riad El Fenn is a large town house located on the edge of the Medina of Marrakesh, Morocco. Owned by Vanessa Branson and Howell James they bought this historical house in 2002 with the aim to restore it to its original glory.

Their vision was to provide the comfort and facilities of a modern hotel, while  creating the feel of an intimate and private home. Over the past few years, they have bought the adjoining houses and connected it to the main property with secret passages and doorways, creating a magical and mysterious collection of beautiful rooms, courtyards and terraces.

Are you ready for a vacation.....I am :-)

Where I Blog!

My family room is casual, cosy and fun.....at least, that is how I want it to be :-) This is pretty much where we spend our life when we are home! I like the informality of this space. Off late, I have noticed that I prefer to sit on the couch in this room and blog.  From the couch, I have a view of my backyard.  The large windows give me a peak into the outside world. I get a view of the endless rain which is the norm here.......  or  the rare and lovely sight of the sun streaming through !

The pictures that hang on the wall are significant to me.  The bright and colorful truck print reminds me of India. The pictures of our travels and the prints from local art fairs remind me of glorious vacations and fun times.

Have you entered my Birthday Giveaway?? You are going to like it :-)

Linking up to the Weekend Wrap Up Party at Tatertots and Jello and the paty at A Little Inspiration.

An English Cottage

This delightful cottage has been sitting in my inspiration folder for a while. Today, seemed to be the perfect day to share it with you :-) The dull and grey weather around me seems to fade away as I step into this shabby chic........ bright and beautiful home.

Located in the Derbyshire countryside, the property was built approximately 200 years ago. It had been rented out as a gamekeeper’s cottage for a long while and had been neglected for many years. The dark and damp cottage was given a face lift and every corner of it has been restored beautifully by the family who lives here!

This lovely house makes me smile :-)

I  hope you enjoyed this house tour? Have you signed up for my birthday Giveaway ??? Click here to enter, you don't want to miss it :-)
