Hello there! While My Dream Canvas is a lifestyle blog, many people refer to me as a design blogger. While its all very flattering.....I am not a professional designer:) I have had no formal training in design and cannot rightfully claim that title. However, over the years, I am getting more and more involved in the world of interiors. I believe that design and interiors are two very different things. I am sure the professionals out there can explain that distinction better. For me, interiors have turned into a life long love affair. I appreciate beautifully designed spaces/rooms. More importantly, I enjoy experimenting with different design and decor elements. The journey can be more fun than the destination itself :-)
If you are like me, and spend some time browsing online or flipping through magazines, you can spot the latest design trends. While I can appreciate design trends, I am not an avid follower. Though, it can be gratifying to realize that the design elements that I have used, have become trendy.
I have been meaning to ask my readers this question for a while now. How many of you spot something in a magazine or a blog and then go about creating something similar in your home? I almost never have the time, money, or resources to do that.
However, I do love creating new vignettes in my home. I use a lot of flowers. I feel fresh flowers almost instantly give my room a new look. As for the props, I just use what I have:) I simply club them differently and move things around constantly. It helps to create vignettes that makes me smile :) Don't be afraid to mix and match. Create colorful hues, and in doing so, have lots of fun.
While changing furniture, pillows, upholstery, curtains etc can be the boldest way to bring in change, sometimes subtle touches can do the trick as well:)
Here are a few images of my latest vignette............

That looks beautiful, Anu. The colors are just gorgeous and the composition is wonderful! xo Diana
Love the colors and how beautifully you play with them. The double dahlias by now are such a trademark of MDC! And great question too.. By some quirk of fate I got to rework a space from scratch a few years back. Despite years of ‘design schooling’ (am not pro myself)- thru books, travel, magazines the net- there was no one single picture that came to me as a template to be replicated. To take a picture off a source and replicate the idea as is, however meticulous? - Where’s the fun in that ?
That’s the funny thing about inspiration. It can strike anywhere! In the most unlikely of places and in the most unlikely forms. The idea of immersion in the world outside is merely to facilitate what foments within in my view. I recollect a leading interior designer mentioning somewhere: ‘there is no such thing as an original idea’ . We constantly take what is out there and make it our own by coloring it with our sensibilities. The idea is to be attuned to the space and us and do what comes from within. It might be inspired by a previously seen image, but it has to come from within.
:)
Oh my, the light is perfect and these Dahlias are an amazing color! Such a enchanting and magical room!
Warm Hugs,

Lovely images of your home Anu. I love those aqua candle stands. They add so much of colour and also bring a pristine look to the place. About the question, I don't think many of us would copy an idea to the T. There are so many things to take care of before you can do that. If I like what I see somewhere and if it inspires me greatly, I just try and bring about the same look by putting together things that are already present in my home instead of going on a wild shopping spree. That is just not possible :)
