The Grown Up Room

The sun is shining and the spring cleaning at home has begun. I am a happy gal :-) Baby steps of course but at least its is a beginning! My garage is a nightmare and that's the first place I need to tackle. Do you ever get the feeling that on some days you love your house and on other days you just want to run away :-) Let me explain.....that happens to me a lot with all the chaos around me. Toys littered everywhere, endless laundry, papers that are sitting around but never get looked at......you get the drift :-)

Well, to solve my problem, I devote one room to me! It is the grown up room in the house. It is my space with an imaginary "Do not Enter" sign as per my convenience :-) The sign is for the family members to enforce that hubby and the kids keep their mess out of here :-)

Does it help to define spaces? I think it does especially with small kids. Eventually the kids will learn to keep things in order and within their own space. I am a long way from there......but then hopefully we shall get there SOMEDAY :-)

So here's my "Grown up" room while the rest of the house looks like a tornado has hit it :-)

I recently received a gift for my birthday. A lovely tray which is now the centerpiece on my dining table. Thank you S :-)

Here's a  full view of the cabinet I found at a local antique store. I like how my family heirlooms have a good home!

Here's a design tip.... all moms deserve a grown up room. So go ahead and try and create one for yourself :-) How is your week coming along?  I would love to hear from you.

I completely agree that every mom should have her own a grown up room...a place where no kids are allowed!!! Your room is beautiful, such an inspiration!!! I am in the process of planning our home office redesign and it will not be a kiddies hang out!!!!

Stopping by from 21 Rosemary Lane to thank you for your kind words...they are very much appreciated!

Following you now!
Have a great week!

What a very pretty room that you have called your own. I too have always had a me/Mom room, it is my living room and I always enjoy a cup of tea in the morning in that room while the house is quiet, before the kids start their day. Diane

Oh, I can remember wanting....no nEEDING a grown up room when my kids were little. This is beautiful!!! The piece you found at the antique store: my Aunt had a VERY similiar piece. I almost thought it was hers:) And I always loved it. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I will be back. XO, Pinky PS, I see you still have word verification on. You don't need it and many people will NOT comment if they see it. Just to warn you.

I love the look. I bet you could also layer it another mirror or painting on the wall to give you another option for its use when you change your centerpiece. Thanks for stopping by our little blog.

I love your grown up room. I have one, too, that is all white. I love it! That hutch you found is a gorgeous piece. It is great in your room. Nice tray with candles, too. Have a good day- xo Diana

ps. Please consider taking off the double word verification. It makes it harder to leave a comment and a couple of times I have clicked off not realizing the word verifier had not been activated.

I agree, one room kept for yourself is a nice respite from all the clutter. Very pretty!

I agree. Everyone needs to feel like they have a space of their own. Yours looks very nice. It sounds like you really need it too!

Carol said...

I agree - but my "room" is the walk in closet in the guest bedroom - it's my "craft room" - not exactly the best of circumstances, but it will have to do for now.
Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier!

Everyone needs a little getaway or a private space, especially when you have children. When I was teaching school, my getaway was the teacher's restroom! Your room looks marvelous with your new tray and antique cabinet.

What a beautiful space! I think we all need that special place. Mine is my master bathroom. My kiddos can pile up in my bed and watch movies or whatever, but my bathroom is off limits :)

I think it is great you have your own space to call your own and keep the way you like. I think your children will absolutely learn how nice to have a place for everything and everything in its place. Well done! It is a lovely space.

You're so right - we can all benefit from a place to call our own - even if all you are able to carve out is just a little corner somewhere! Your room is just lovely!

Loving this "just me" room of yours, where one can just let ones creativity let loose and not thinking how to accomodate the utilitarian, space saving must haves.
Loved your silver collectibles and your Buddhas.Would love it,if you could drop by my blogspot.

I know what you mean about the love/hate with the house. Though, I do find the cleaner and less cluttered ... the greater the love!

And I am with you on the grown up mom space. But my kids keep invading. I created a family room just for them, but they keep encroaching on my blogging and tv watching area! Sigh.

Dear Anu, thanks so much for visiting my blog! I am following you now at your gorgeous blog. Soon, I will be back to look back at other posts that you have done in the past.

Hello Anu,

I smiled reading your post as I just commented on a friends blog about her success in decluttering. I can usually manage the house but, like you, my garage is the place where 'stuff' goes until I can deal with it. And, the time has come to deal with it :)

So nice perusing many of your posts!
Kindly, Lorraine

Oh how I wish I could keep a room so clean, uncluttered, and zen-like! I tend to be such a collector that I'm running out of room to store things! You're lucky to have created such a pretty room. Love that gorgeous antique server. ;-)
