Vintage Coffee Grinder

I have had this Vintage French coffee mill in my house for a while now. It sits on my breakfast table. I use it to store little trinkets :) I bought it at an antique store for a lark. I loved the design and the concept. It is quite rusty and old....... but then you know of my weakness for all things vintage :)

A few days ago I dropped it by accident. Thankfully, it only has a slight chip in the corner. I felt so bad about it!! Anyway, here's some information about this vintage coffee grinder. The "moulin a cafe' as it is called in French is made out of wood. It has a metal grinder that opens up with an iron trap on the top. You just add the coffee beans and turn the arm to grind the coffee. The coffee falls into the little drawer and voila......your coffee is ready :)

It is hard to imagine using this today when you have all the sophisticated machines around!! However, this seems like a great way to grind the beans......don't you think:) I believe these coffee mills date back to the early 1900's.

I cannot imagine my breakfast table without it:)

My mother ground her coffee beans every morning of life with one that was similar to this only bigger- I love that you found one and enjoy it. I wish I had the one that belonged to my Mom. xo Diana
