I've got travel on my mind as I am heading to Istanbul in a few weeks. Yay :) Turkey has been on my list of places to visit for a while now. While there is so much to see in Turkey, for now we are focusing on Istanbul. As a family, we do a fair amount of research before we travel. However, we are not big on conducted tours. The Rick Steves Guide Book is a constant companion and of course some extra research on the web always comes handy.
I would love to hear from you. For those of you who have traveled to Istanbul, please do share your experiences with me. Any tips and suggestions would be welcome.......favorite attractions, restaurants, shopping advice or anything else that comes to your mind??
I am eagerly waiting to hear from you :)

wow...it's a beautiful place... just 2 weeks back we were there for 3 days...loved it... the must see things are of course hagia Sofia ...blue mosque...don't miss the basilica cistern...underground water system. Topkapi palace and bosphorous river cruise... we would not suggest the half day cruise as we felt it waste of time...the half trip for 2 hrs will be just fine. and spice bazaar is beautiful to look...grand bazaar is best to shop where bargaining should at least start from less than half the price....and good deals will be found during closing time. .. Turkish lamps...tea sets...ceramic bowls...placmats and coasters...everything is tempting... loved different kind of shawls ... the list goes on and on... its a heaven to shop...and about the restaurant..loved the one infront of Topkapi palace..forgot the name...will check pics and let u know soon..kunefe the sweet and testi kebap is very yummy..and lastly the hotel..choose something walkable distance to these main attractions...Heaven of Turkish delights...we liked them in sweet shop hafiz Mustafa...near tram station of spice bazaar...oh god am so happy and excited... have great trip and happy eating and shopping :)
