Memories, Decor and A Discussion

I am back again today with a question for all my readers today! How do you weave your memories into your decor? At the MDC Casa, my decor is extremely personal, it conforms to no rules and follows only my heart :) What about you? What is your secret mantra to make your home personal? 

 I have always wanted my home to speak of my personal style. I literally spell it out :) I weave a story by creating a "heritage display" at home. I collect old photographs and letters of my family and display them around my home. I have diligently been rummaging through closets and albums in my parents' home in Delhi. As a result, I have managed to bring back some lovely photographs to Seattle! You can imagine my excitement when the pictures go up on a wall or find that perfect corner to call home:)

 Yesterday, I came across these vintage style frames which seem perfect for the black and white photographs. The first image is personal favorite. The little girl is my mom :) The picture was taken by my grandfather half a century ago. My Grandfather was a brilliant photographer. At that time....years ago, he had a darkroom in his home where he developed his own prints. I adore this picture as my daughter shares a remarkable resemblance to my mom in this photograph :)

Bougainvillea Love :)

How are you doing? My apologies for missing in action. I have family over from England and its been super busy. We are having an incredible time! Summer is such a great time to just slow down, enjoy some family time and spend time outdoors. We are going through heat wave which I am not enjoying at all. 
Seattle is not geared up for this kind of weather and we are baking :) However, the views are gorgeous. The skies are blue, the lakes are sparkling, the days are endless....the mountains look picture perfect and the sunsets are magnificent :)

 I wanted to share a few images of this stunning 15th Anniversary party featured on Style Me Pretty!. A party with a Mexican flair and pretty bougainvilleas. I could not help but smile as I went through all the images. Do you have a flower that reminds you of a special time or special someone?? For me, bougainvilleas remind me of my childhood. I spent many years in Rajasthan and bougainvilleas were the only flowers we ever saw. The pink and red hues dazzled against the sandy backdrop. I always feel nostalgic when I see them. You can see clearly why I am drawn to the pretty vignettes and spaces below!

A Legacy

Today is my Grandmother's birthday( Nani). She is no more....... but her legacy lives on............

I spent a large part of my life with her and she has been a great influence in my life. She was elegant, beautiful, wise and kind. I am proud to be her granddaughter! I surround my home with things that belonged to her, and it makes me feel happy and loved!!

Preserving my Inheritance

Its been a project I have been working on for months and its still not complete. However I am happy that I am making progress. Today I have a good selection of pictures of my ancestors which I proudly display in my house. The oldest picture is of my grandmother's grandfather dating back to the early 1900's. Each of the pictures have a story to tell. I think its such a lovely way to preserve old memories. The albums lie buried in a corner, or on the hard drive whereas this makes it so much more real :-) Its a legacy that needs to be preserved for the generations to come, and I am excited to do my part !!

My mothers picture below, taken in the Mughal Gardens of the Rashtrapathi Bhavan ( presidents palace) while she was staying there with her parents, is my favourite.
