Welcoming The New Year and A Road Trip

Hello there! I hope you have missed me :) I know I disappeared for a few days. We as a family love road trips, and so we decided to take off for a few days! We drove down to a cute little fishing village on the Oregon coast called Yachats.  The churning seas made for some spectacular scenery. It was cold, it was misty, it was cloudy but it was beautiful. Here are a few pictures that I took from in front of our hotel room! The Pacific Northwest is known for its winter sea storms and I was thrilled that I got to see it :)

I would like to wish you all a Very Happy New Year. I hope the New Year brings you everything you wish for and more!

Happy 2013!!

I could spend a lifetime here!

Hello There!

How have you been? I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones! I have been enjoying some quiet family time at home. My sinuses are killing me but other than that the holidays have been a good break :)

Do you have a cosy corner or room at home where you and your family love to get together? A spot that everyone gravitates towards after a busy day. For us, it is our family room which is comfortable, laid back and not fussy!! I  try not to over decorate this space! The room has couches that recline, some comfy throws, family pictures, my kids toys and a few favorite books :)

I am loving the look and feel of this space from my favorite design magazine. I like the warmth and coziness of this room. It looks like the perfect room to sit and chat with family and close friends, or retreat with a good book, and some tea :) What do you think?

Have a beautiful week and see you around!

Pretty Sugar Poinsettias

I would love to make fabulous desserts but alas I can't :) I am a decent cook.....at least  that's what my family thinks and they are probably biased :) However, baking and making fabulous desserts is something that I have to work on! I  plan to remedy that in the New Year! I am always inspired by creative people like Luciana of Lulu's Sweet Secrets. While desserts taste great........getting it to look beautiful is also an art and requires a lot of creativity and hard work!

The instant I spotted these sugar poinsettias I was in love and completely in awe!! Aren't they just so delicate and beautiful and perfect for the season.

Click here for the complete tutorial on how to make these beauties! Thank you Luciana for letting me to share your lovely creation with the readers of My Dream Canvas!

Happy Holidays everyone!!!

Hoilday Season At The MDC Casa !

The Holiday season has such a lovely feel to it. My favorite part is seeing all the twinkling lights around the city! It is festive, beautiful and so magical :) I have been busy decorating my tree and running around town for gifts........ but it is all so worth it :)

I have had a hard time taking pictures of my tree! All because my little one insists on changing the ornaments around everyday. She likes to have her favorite ornaments bunched up together on one branch! I guess she does not care much for my ideas :) My biggest design critique is now my four year old :)

Here are just a few pictures of my home decked up for the Holidays........

This afternoon I made hot cocoa for myself and my kids. We might be getting some snow tomorrow. There is a blizzard warning in effect for the mountains close by. The cocoa with the yummy marshmallows was the perfect drink for today :)

Come Fly With Me To Brazil

While I get ready for snow tomorrow and blizzard like conditions in the mountains close to home, I will fly out on a virtual trip. I invite you to come with me :) Come Fly with Me to Brazil ! This utterly delightful and gorgeous home is located in the small fishing village of Buzios.

Right on the beach, this home has undergone massive restoration by architect Mauro Cid. The family who bought this home vacationed in this lovely town for years. They finally decided to settle down there. The house was originally dark and dingy but came with a lot of potential for improvement. Today, with spectacular views from every room, this home has a relaxed vibe, a rustic elegance, and a secluded feel that the owners love! I am loving it too :)

Sometimes, I really wonder where people who live in houses like these go for  vacations :)

I would have no problems cooking..... if I had a kitchen like this :)

This would be the ideal blogging headquarters for My Dream Canvas :)

Some Thoughts and a New Week

Hello Monday and a warm hello to all of you! I have been extremely disturbed by the news of a horrific tragedy that unfolded a few days ago here in the States. I am sure many of you share this sentiment with me! It left me sad, angry, scared.....and so much more! I know this is a design and lifestyle blog and my happy place! However, sometimes it is hard to disconnect and talk about design and decor when there is so much heartbreak all around!

I could go on and on.......but sometimes when there is lots to say, you feel that words seem inadequate.......

My best wishes are there with all of you! Have a good week ahead.

My Winter Wonderland

We have had really gloomy weather the past few days (-: I know, I should not be surprised after all this will be my seventh year of living in the Pacific Northwest. Yet, every winter my system takes a while to get used to the endless rain and the  cloudy skies. These days the light does not change from the morning till the evening. It is dark all the time!

As you can clearly see.....I am whining :) So last night, I decided to do something about it ! You all know me for a while now! Nothing pleases me more than taking pictures around the house :) The reflection of my Christmas tree lights on the windowpane proved to be the perfect backdrop!

I am shaking off those winter blues by creating my own winter wonderland :)

Here's wishing you a sparkling day wherever you are!!

Barn Living in Gotland, Sweden

This eclectic barn is the home of cinematographer Bengan Widell. The barn is located in Gotland, Sweden. I was curious to know more about Gotland so I researched it a little bit :) Gotland is the largest island in Sweden and also the largest in the Baltic Sea.

These lovely Photographs are by Amelia & Andreas Lönngren Widell.

I love the rustic and bohemian vibe of this home!  I would like to hear about what you think of this home?

Come Fly With Me To Monteverdi, Tuscany

The lure of Tuscany is irresistible...... especially to the dreamer in me :) This Monday morning, I want you to travel with me to Monteverdi. This hotel is in  the heart of a Tuscan village called Castiglioncello. The restoration project for this hotel was completed in 2012. The hotel blends the ancient with the modern. Castiglioncello del Trinoro is a 900-year-old village that happens to be the site of the only privately sponsored archaeological dig in Tuscany.

Welcome to the life at Monteverdi....... and prepare to be swept away :)

Rudolph is Here :)

My Reindeer at home does not have a red nose but he is still very cute :) When I was a kid my Dad used to sing Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer to me all the time! Now he sings it for my kids. My four year old loves the song and giggles every time he sings it for her :) We all have a few special songs we loved as a child. I still smile, and sing along when I hear this song :) I would love to hear about some of your favorite songs as a child?

My Reindeer at home is here to wish you a Happy Friday and a lovely weekend!
Have Fun :)

An Act of Kindness

The Holiday Season is fabulous and I love everything about it :) Today a complete stranger in Target went out of her way to tell me where I could get a better deal on a toy I was thinking of buying for my son. She even showed me a picture of the toy on her phone. I guess..... I looked rather helpless and extremely confused :) She told me about the newer version of the toy as she was getting the same thing for her son. Thanks to her, I will be getting my son the right Christmas gift :) This random act of kindness from a stranger meant the world to me! It was a good start to my morning :)

I am sending smiles and lots of good wishes your way!! I had to share this image with you......it looks so welcoming :)

This beautiful fire seems like the perfect companion for this cold winter evening :)

Holiday Cheer At Home

My cold winter nights are looking a wee bit brighter these days :) I recently found these pretty twigs at a lovely home store a few miles away from home. They have tiny little bulbs that sparkle when lit :) The best part is that they do not have no ugly wires that need an outlet to connect to. These twigs light up using batteries. You can stick them into vases or or just about anything. With no wires outside they look so pretty as a centerpiece on a table!!

I absolutely adore them :) They are perfect for this season! For now, I am using them with some Christmas decoration to spread some holiday cheer in my home :) However,  I can see myself using them year around specially when I have a dinner party. These twigs can be used by themselves, or with  flowers and other types of decorative branches to create a sparkling centerpiece!

Aren't they fun :)
