Kantha Stich Tea Cups!

Kantha embroidery has been a rage in the design world for some time now. You can read more about Kantha here. I recently found these Kantha stitch Tea cups at Anthropologie :) Aren't they cute :) I am working on a article for a magazine on interesting corners at home. These tea cups are a great prop :) I am not thrilled with the images as it is a very dull and grey day in my part of the world. I need some sunshine!!!!

More pictures coming soon.....till then enjoy your Friday and have an awesome weekend!

A Home in Byron Bay

This house in Australia is a treasure chest of art deco, flea market finds, antiques and unusual knick-knacks! I love how effortlessly everything seems to come together.

The owners were in the business of furniture restoration and therefore have some striking pieces of furniture in their home! They moved their house from Queensland to Byron Baby in New South Wales, Yes, I do mean literally :) They actually moved the kitchen’s hoop pine floorboards from Queensland amongst other things. The owners moved pieces of the entire house in three stages! Wow! In my book that is something!

This coffee table was was once part of a US factory trolley :)

What a charming vignette!

Artifacts from Brisbane, Java, Spain and restored art deco chairs!

Very pretty bunting and love the turquoise chair in the child's bedroom!

I love the swaying palms and the orchids hanging from the trees!

So what are your thoughts about this home?  I would love to know? Make sure you enter my Holiday Giveaway :)

A Cup of Tea With Celebrations Decor

Today, I would love for you to join me for a cup of tea with Lakshmi of Celebrations Decor. My favorite part of being a part of the blogosphere is the beautiful friendships you get to form with people you meet virtually. While one may be living thousands of miles away.... it almost seems easy to build a connection with people with similar interests.

A couple of years ago I hosted a lunch for a few blogger friends in Delhi. Unfortunately Lakshmi could not join us. However, we have stayed in touch over the years. Lakshmi's blog is a photographer's delight. Lakshmi very effectively creates the most charming vignettes while photographing the corners of her stunning home! Her work is inspiring and takes me back to a simpler time! I had a tough time picking just a few images from the collection of photographs Lakshmi sent me! However, you can view the beauty of Lakshmi's work in its entirety by visiting her blog and on Facebook.

Welcome to Lakshmi's world......

The array of cushions made using traditional textiles have been stitched at Lakshmi's home!

I love that chair :)

Lovely hues...

Time for some music....

Thank you Lakshmi for sharing the beautiful images of your home with the readers of My Dream Canvas.

YASTK on Etsy is an online shop based out of Turkey. Their latest collection of Suzanis and Kilim's takes my breath away. These two stunning cushions are my Fabulous Finds for this week :) They are truly "Fabulous" and way beyond my budget. However, I see no harm in admiring pretty things :)

YASTK also offers a range of Suzanis and Kilims at lower prices. The best part is that they offer free shipping to the United States. It is a store you don't want to miss :)

The Holiday Season

Hello! It is Monday once more :) In my neck of the woods it is all about the Holiday Season. Thanksgiving weekend was fun and now it is the countdown to Christmas :)

Every where you go there is music in the air :) Shoppers galore, Christmas trees getting set up and looking pretty.....homes being decked for the season.........twinkling lights and so much more! This is a picture I took of the festive atmosphere at a local mall. They call this the Snowflake lane and my kids love it. There is loud music, lights, princesses and fairies and other characters all dressed up to amuse the kids! The grown ups had fun too :)

These are the simple joys that make a weekend memorable, don't you think ? Here's wishing you a great week ahead!

Friday Happiness

I am surfacing to wish you a happy weekend :) Our weekend kicked off early here in the States. Thanksgiving was spent the way it should be.....surrounded by family and friends....tonnes of food.....laughter and smiles. I also managed a wee bit of Black Friday shopping today :) I did not do the midnight madness or the early morning sprint to the stores , but I did venture out later in the day :) Now, its back to some rest and relaxation right here at home!

Have a lovely day!

A Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Thanksgiving is just a few days away and I am working out a menu for the Thanksgiving meal in my house! While the menu is still a work in progress, I am toying with a few simple ideas for my table setting!

I wanted to create something small and simple for my table. Things that you can dig out from your china cabinet are always fun.  A few fresh flowers and some tea lights and voila...... you are getting a peak into what my table might look like on Thursday :)

I have used my Great Grandfather's soup bowl as a vase. Yes, it does look like a tea cup but it is actually a soup bowl and has handles on both sides. This soup bowl is part of a Royal Cauldon dinner set bought in England by my Great Grandfather in the 1930's. It is my pride and joy :)

The antique kidney shaped side plates are perfect trays for my tea lights :)

The fresh flowers have similar hues to the flower motifs on the plate.

The tea light holders will of course be lit :)

I quite like the orange and blue tones......what do you think ?

I like that my table will have a touch of history. The blend of the old and the new. While, I want to create my own traditions with my children. I would like them to grow up respecting and cherishing the things that have been passed down generations!

I am joining Wow Us Wednesday's at Savvy Southern Style.

Tea and Magazines

Hello there! I had a pretty decent weekend and here is a recap. I went for a movie on Friday with some friends. That is a rare achievement for me :) We had dinner with some other friends on Saturday. The friends whose place we went for dinner, have something quite extraordinary in their home. I am in love with the concept, the design and the sentiment behind it. I hope to share it with you soon. For now I can only tell you that it is something beautiful :)

I briefly flipped through some design magazines on Sunday! It has been ages since I had time to do that. It was relaxing :)

I will be back to show you the home of a textile designer.Stay tuned for some more design inspiration and pretty things at MDC.

Have a great week ahead.......

Build Up To Thanksgiving

It is a chilly evening in my part of the world. The endless rain would usually bug me! However, the build up to Thanksgiving and with the Holiday season upon us....... I am all smiles :) I spent the day shopping and running errands. There is a buzz all around! Despite the chaotic traffic and the shopping frenzy, I love going out this time of the year :)

Lighting a few candles at home always makes me feel warm and fuzzy :) This Thanksgiving day, I plan to cook for my family, spend some time with close friends and generally enjoy the holidays :)

Have a great weekend!

Fabulous Finds- Good Earth and A Tribute To Kashmir

I recently heard from Good Earth, one of my favorite stores in India. Every time I am back in India I have to pay my annual visit to this beautiful store :)

Each year the design collection at Good Earth tells a story of a cultural, geographical or mythical aspect of a region. For the year 2012-2013, Good Earth has been inspired by the beauty, craft and cultural heritage of Kashmir. Good Earth pays tribute to the Kashmiri karigars, by working together to create a contemporary design vocabulary while retaining the spirit of their tradition.

I have had the opportunity to live in Kashmir and have subsequently gone back for a visit. I can tell you that Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places on Earth!

The Farah Baksh collection is both classy and beautiful :) Aarti of Good Earth did send me some lovely collages of their products but I was not satisfied :) I wanted to give my readers a closer look at the Farah Baksh collection. She responded quickly.... and today I have these gorgeous images to share with you.

You can visit Good Earth here and on Facebook as well!

I would love to hear of your favorites from the collection below??? Everything of course is totally drool worthy :)

I personally love this cushion!!

I love this series. Paper Mache is a craft that recycles waste paper into delicate hand painted objects. The charm of paper mache lies in its beautiful design vocabulary and the decoration on these paper mache products is called Naqashi.

Thank you Good Earth for sharing your collection with the readers of MDC.
