The Beauty and Soul of A Home and a Nomination

Good Morning! How have you been? Its come as a complete surprise to be nominated for the IDIA Asian Paints Decor Blogger of the Year. I want to thank each and every one of you for reading MDC and for making this possible. For those of you who voted for me, I am really touched! This journey of becoming a decor blogger happened quite by accident, and its been an incredible few years!

I want to share a post I wrote a while ago, about what I consider to be, the beauty and soul of a home! Here are a few lines ............

" I can simply state, that my home "moves me". I guess because these four walls are my comfort zone. Living here with my Family, is what makes it perfect! We build our home over time and with layers. The layers in my home are far from perfect, nothing matches and not everything fits perfectly :) However, beauty does not come from perfection....right? Your home does not have to be perfect in the conventional sense....but you should love it, and make a connection with it. Call me a sentimental fool, but my Family, my Friends who live close by and the imperfect layers in my home gives it beauty and a soul!

I am grateful for my home and to all my readers who bring a smile to my face!

The voting for the IDIA awards will end soon! You can click on the image below to go to my profile page to vote for me if you like :)

Celebrating Summer MDC Style!

Hello there! After two days of rain and cooler temperatures we are back to sunshine and blue skies. The summer in the Pacific Northwest is so short that we make the most of it. Each day of sunshine is celebrated :) It is the place to be outdoors, with lakes and mountains at your doorstep! I love this time of the year.

At home too, I dress up the place for summer. Fresh flowers, hints of cream, orange and green dominate my space :) My beloved heirlooms sparkle and shine with an extra coat of silver polish. I plan to try my hand at block printing, hence my recent fascination with blocks :) Here are some images that capture summer at My Dream Canvas. I am taking these pictures for a project and I shall share the details soon.

Happy Friday people and have a beautiful weekend :)

Hello there and a virtual trip...

Good morning all! How have you been? Its been a busy few days for me, and its gets busier as I head off to India in less than two weeks :-) We had a lovely time celebrating Diwali (the festival of lights at our home) last night. Today, it is a gorgeous Fall day here in the Pacific Northwest. I have a million of things to tackle but I am enjoying the sun streaming through my window. Grab a cup of tea and join me as I take you away to Spain with me :-)

A 19th century industrial building has been lovingly restored to create this lovely home in Cadiz, Spain. I really like the bright and rustic feel to this house......

What do you think?

Luxury in unexpected places!

With bathrooms like these, who needs bedrooms right ??? I want to be super rich and experience these heavenly resorts and glamorous spaces for myself! Don't you think that life should be an endless vacation, and then we'll all be happy:-) It might lead to boredom eventually, but imagine getting tired of vacations!!! Now that's a novel idea :-) Do you have a favorite image amongst these? I am so confused, I love them all....

My Special room

I have to let you into a little secret....this is the most comfortable room in our house but not always the tidiest. It looks like this, after I have picked up the endless toys that my two toddlers leave around:-) Its is my favorite part of the house. We practically spend every waking moment right here. From TV time, playing, studying, eating, my blogging and all the laughter, yelling and screaming, both the good and bad, it all happens here:-)
My mom sent me this painting from India and its the focal point of my family room.

The breakfast nook on the other side of the room is our multipurpose room. Seattle is cold and dreary eight months in the year. However this area gets a lot of light when the sun shines. Hence, I love it.

Its also a place for memories......family pictures are everywhere, like my wedding picture here.

A Friday at home

The rain seems to be here to stay. I was hoping for some sunshine this weekend but that's not in the picture. I should stop complaining as the view outside my window is actually very nice. Its green wherever you look.......outside, and on my windowsill. I love changing the plants in my pretty pink bottles. I am now going to make myself a cup of coffee and read a book. The perfect pastime for this weather..don't you think ??? I can at least try till my toddler wakes me up an demands attention :-)

Have a weekend full of smiles!!!!

From India with love

With the luggage restrictions bringing stuff from India is getting harder and harder. I am so glad I bought two of these little tables from India a few years ago. I love the kundan (engraving) work on it. They are small and versatile and I move them around as needed. My little toddler, finds the tables fascinating and is constantly pushing them around. Hope it survives all the attention from her!!!

Dream House

My first home in Atlanta was certainly love at first sight. I walked in and saw this beautiful brick fireplace and fell in love with it. The rustic elegance of this inviting room made me want to light the fire and curl up next to it with a good book. I recently found these pictures and it was a walk down memory lane. I remember the excitement of moving in here and the sleepless nights I spent trying to to get the right look.
I picked up the red rug on a trip to Mexico and it compliments the cushions which I bought in Urmul, Rajasthan. The little paper kites pasted on the mantle are from Dilli Haat in Delhi. I truly believe you can create a unique style of your own with big ideas and inexpensive things!

My Heirlooms

I love old things especially family heirlooms. Antique heirlooms are an integral part of my home. I am proud of them and curious about how and when it came into the family. My mother gave me a few pieces of a Royal Cauldon dinner set a few years ago. These were bought in England by my Great Grandfather in 1930's and shipped to India. His home had a dining table which seated 48 people at a time. I presume this dinner set was used when he entertained on a grand scale. My quest to know more about these pieces led me to do some research . I have been able to gather a lot of information about the history of Royal Cauldon.
Cauldon Potteries manufactured china and earthenware at the Cauldon Place Works in Stoke-on-Trent in England. The owners of the Cauldon Works were " Potters to Her Majesty " and as a result Cauldon were able to adopt the branding Royal Cauldon in 1930. The printed backstamp " Royal Cauldon England Est. 1774 Made In England " was in use from 1930-1950. In 1962 the firm Cauldon Potteries Ltd. was divided and the porcelain side was continued by Coalport, which in turn is part of the well known Wedgwood group.
My prized collection..
